Temporary Membership

One months’ temporary membership of the club is included with your trial lesson and that starts the day you have that flight. This means that during your temporary membership you can come along at weekends or on a Wednesday evening (May to August) and have some more lessons at our normal club rates. However, we do have a booking system for training that is only open to full members and that has priority but we will do our very best to get you flying if you come along again. All additional flying done on a temporary membership must be paid for on the day by cash or cheque.

If you wish you may join the club immediately as a full member in which case you will be allowed to use our web based system for booking training. If you join the club as a full member within one month of your trial lesson we will refund £30 of your trial lesson fee against your first years membership (applies only to holders of new style vouchers with a serial number). To join as full member of the Highland Gliding Club you will need to pay one years’ membership at the start. The actual cost will vary depending on which category of full membership you are entitled to have, please see the fees page for pricing information. You will also be required to pay the site fee. The British and Scottish Gliding association fees are collected by the club when they are due, usually around February, and paid to these bodies.

All members of the club have a ‘flying account’. The treasurer debits membership costs and flying fees and credits all payments to their account. Club members are encouraged to keep their account in credit whenever possible and to this end are encouraged to set up a standing order from their bank to the club’s. This way it is much easier to budget for gliding.

One of the best ways of progressing quickly when learning to glide is to take a course. Please note that full members of the club only pay their flying fees and not the whole course fee. Please see the courses page for current course availability.

Before flying solo in a glider you must have a form signed by your doctor to say you are medically fit. If you take regular medication for any condition or suffer from any illness that you think may affect you flying please consult with the chief flying instructor and/or your doctor before joining as a full member and starting training. You should also check that any life insurances you have will cover you for flying in gliders.
